  • New communities in the regions can thrive when water sensitive design principles are established early on in the planning process. We ignore nature-based water management principles at our peril.

  • Accessing food locally that is high in nutrient density is a growing priority, helping to promote healthy ageing, healthy soil & healthy ecosystems

  • New off-site construction methods can reduce build costs, making the dream of home ownership more attainable to many.

  • Smart technologies, including AgTech and satellite technology offer numerous opportunities for rural communities including management of local infrastructure, access to services, and opportunities for remote work.

CEVCO is a mission-driven organisation committed to advancing circular and regenerative approaches for the planning and development of new greenfield communities across Australia’s regions.

Australia is home to some of the most biodiverse ecological habitats in the world. The landscape is blessed with abundant sunlight, enabling local renewable energy to create new value for regional communities.

Meanwhile, more and more Australians recognise the importance of connection to food and regenerating the land. More Australians want to create healthy futures where both people and nature can thrive.

Despite these opportunities, not enough is being done to promote the adoption of circular and regenerative principles in regional planning and development.

Now is the time to accelerate the transition towards net-positive, circular communities that promote healthy and regenerative landscapes, where people and nature can thrive.

CEVCO Approach

The CEVCO model is designed to accelerate the adoption of smart and regenerative principles in the planning, design and delivery of new communities in Australia’s regions.

Creating local value through ecological Infrastructure

  • Communities are starting to lead local, community-generated energy infrastructure, demonstrating that value can be created and shared locally through renewable energy. New communities should be planned with local energy infrastructure as an asset.

  • Australia is facing a crisis in waste management, and new solutions are needed to support more circular waste management policies at the local level.

  • More intelligent and water sensitive planning and design can promote new solutions to water management in regional communities.

  • Regional communities can be designed to enable residents to act as land regenerators, leveraging human capital to maximise nature-based capital.

Alignment with policy context

  • Many novel ideas for ‘eco villages’ and ‘regenerative communities’ face hurdles when seeking planning approval.

    CEVCO prioritises collaboration with local and state governments to tailor planning policy provisions and development controls to accelerate approval pathways.

  • When informed by data and insights, new communities can be better designed to support more nature-positive and regenerative models of development.

  • The policy context for regional development now recognises the need for new solutions to tackling drought resilience, promoting regional economies and building circular supply chains.

Progress through partnerships

  • First Nations custodians, local land owners and community leaders are key partners in the identification of appropriate locations for new communities.

  • Social and affordable models of housing are critical for Australia’s regional communities. CEVCO seeks to partner with community housing providers, housing cooperative and innovative developers.

  • CEVCO advocates for the adoption of circular and regenerative models of housing by Australia’s universities operating as development partners.

  • Leveraging new sources of investment in circular and regenerative communities is vital to accelerate new development models for the regions.

Innovation through design

  • Country-centred design principles and methodologies are critical to the adoption of more circular and regenerative outcomes for Australia’s regions.

  • CEVCO promotes social design principles that facilitate new solutions to enabling shared and community value outcomes through regional community development.

  • Circularity and low carbon building methods must be promoted not only in urban areas but regional communities as well.

  • Innovations in food and agriculture can support more locally-sourced food for regional communities, promoting healthy bodies and healthy soil.
